Peace Corps International Design Competition

In late winter 2015, the Peace Corps Commemorative Foundation announced a design competition. It was an open international competition to give form and meaning to the effort of commemorating the Peace Corps.

Marquand Design entered and after two stages of the competition, it was one of eight design teams honored. It was the only one-person design team honored.

As of summer 2021, the final design has been partially vetted by the agencies with jurisdiction over the project. It can be seen here: https://peacecorpscommemorative.org/

During the design process, we had learned about the noble mission and the remarkable number of volunteers that make up the Peace Corps. It has over 6,000 current volunteers willing to give multiple years of their lives to the betterment of others, abroad.

When concluded, the built landscape at the heart of the nation's capital will have a new, powerful perspective on the American experience, quite unlike anything presently there.
